Morenci vollebyall raises awareness and support for never giving up club

The Morenci Girls Volleyball team took the court for more than competition on September 17, using its annual awareness game against Lenawee Christian to shine a light on mental health and suicide prevention while supporting a student-led organization close to home.

This year’s awareness game benefited the Never Giving Up Club, a mental health-focused club for students at Morenci Middle/High School. The event was held in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month and raised $232 to support the club and its activities.

The Never Giving Up Club was founded by Amaya Peters and current Morenci senior Lilly Roger after they were inspired by a speech from Terrence Talley centered on the powerful message to “never give up.” Mr. Rodan serves as the club’s advisor.

Today, the club has approximately 14 members and provides a welcoming, supportive space for students to connect with one another. Roger, who has helped lead the club since her sophomore year, leads weekly lessons and activities for members.

Funds raised through the volleyball awareness game will support the club’s volunteer efforts and provide funding for games, snacks, activities, and other opportunities that bring students together.

Morenci Area Schools extends its appreciation to the volleyball program, students, families, and community members who supported the awareness game and helped make the evening a success.

The event was another example of Bulldogs supporting Bulldogs, not only on the court, but throughout the school community.
