Wakefield Park Sledding Hill

Winter is in full swing, and the City of Morenci would like to remind residents that the community sledding hill at the north end of Wakefield Park is open and available when weather conditions allow. Since opening last winter, the hill has quickly become a popular spot for families and kids to enjoy outdoor winter recreation close to home.

As a reminder, the sledding hill is open from dawn to dusk and is unsupervised. Sledding is a hazardous activity, and use of the hill is at your own risk. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children at all times.

For everyone’s safety, the City encourages sledders to follow basic safety practices. Sledding should take place during daylight hours only, using proper sleds that allow riders to steer and stop. Items such as inner tubes, snow discs, or makeshift devices should not be used. Riders should always sled feet-first, sitting or kneeling, and never headfirst or standing. Helmets are strongly recommended to reduce the risk of injury.

Please be courteous and aware of others on the hill. Check the sledding path for obstacles before riding, move quickly out of the way after finishing a run, and walk back up along the edges of the hill away from active sledding paths. Makeshift ramps, jumps, and motorized vehicles are strictly prohibited.

Posted rules are located on-site and should be reviewed before use. Conditions can change quickly during winter weather, and users are responsible for determining whether conditions are safe.

The City is glad to offer this seasonal amenity and encourages residents to enjoy it responsibly. For questions or additional information, please contact City Hall.
