Morenci Home Improvement Partnership Program Now accepting applications

The City of Morenci is pleased to announce that the Morenci Home Improvement Partnership (MHIP) Program is now open and accepting applications. Funded through a $1,180,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), the program is part of a statewide initiative focused on strengthening communities through housing preservation and neighborhood stability.

The MHIP program will provide funding to support approximately 40 middle- to low-income homeowner households in completing critical home improvements. Eligible improvements may include roof and structural repairs, heating and cooling system upgrades, siding and insulation installation, window and door replacement, accessibility improvements, and other critical repairs that directly impact the health and safety of the home. The program is available to residents of the City of Morenci. Funding is limited, and all assistance will be provided based on program eligibility guidelines. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Strong, safe housing is the foundation of a strong community,” said Jeff Bell, City Administrator. “This program is an investment in our residents and their homes, helping maintain the health, safety, and long-term stability of our neighborhoods.”

The MHIP program is being administered by the Community Action Agency (CAA). Homeowners interested in applying or learning more about eligibility requirements should contact CAA Supportive Service Coordinator Laurie Lazarus at 517-539-8306 for application assistance and program guidelines.

CAA is seeking qualified licensed contractors to participate in the MHIP Program. Contractors must be licensed with the State of Michigan, EPA RRP certified, and carry both commercial liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Interested contractors should contact CAA Construction Manager Ron Higgins at 517-260-7607 or rhiggins@caajlh.org for more information on program participation requirements.
