The Morenci Band Program invites the community to an evening of music at its Fall Festival of Bands Concert on Thursday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Morenci High School Gymnasium.
The concert will showcase Morenci band students from beginning sixth-grade musicians through the high school marching band, highlighting their musical growth, teamwork, and accomplishments during the first months of the school year.
The evening will open with a large-group selection featuring all of the Morenci bands performing together.
The 6th Grade Band will then take the stage, performing familiar selections including “Rolling Along,” “Hot Cross Buns,” and “Go Tell Aunt Rhodie.” The performance will give audience members an opportunity to hear the progress students have made since beginning their instruments this school year.
The 7th & 8th Grade Band will follow with selections by composers William Owens, Brian Balmages, and Jack Bullock. The middle school portion of the concert will conclude with a combined performance featuring all of the middle school bands.
High School Marching Band Glow Show
The evening will conclude with the Morenci High School Marching Band presenting its Glow Show, 250 Years: An American Journey.
Created in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the show takes the audience on a musical journey through American history and tradition. Selections include “Fanfare for the Common Man,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “Shenandoah,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag/America the Beautiful,” and “God Bless the USA.”
The performance will combine music and marching with lighting and visual effects designed specifically for the Glow Show.
Because the Glow Show will be performed in a darkened gymnasium, audience members are asked to remain seated once the lights are turned off. The gym will remain dark for approximately 12 minutes, and guests should remain seated until the lights are restored for the safety of performers and audience members.
The Morenci Band Program encourages families, friends, and community members to attend and support Morenci’s student musicians.
