GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS - Per Student Handbook
The Michigan Merit Curriculum mandated by state law outlines the following graduation requirements for all students: 

A total of twenty-two (22) credits are necessary to graduate.  

  • English – 4 units  

  • Mathematics – 4 units (Must include 1 unit each of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and math or math-related course taken during the senior year)  

  • Science – 3 units (Must include 1 unit each of Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and an additional science course)  

  • Physical Education/Health – ½ unit each of Physical Education(see Physical Education Classes for alternative options) and Health  

  • Social Studies – 3 units ( ½ unit each of American Government and Economics, 1 unit each of US History & Geography and World History & Geography)  

  • World Languages –2 units of the same world language will be required 

  • Visual, Performing, Applied Arts – 1 unit Seniors who do not qualify for graduation shall be notified at the earliest possible date. 

Students who do not meet all the requirements for graduation as listed above will not take part in the graduation ceremonies. 

Any senior who is absent from school for more than 12 days in a class during the second semester will NOT be allowed to participate in Commencement ceremonies unless permission is granted by the administration.

Senior Slideshow and Google Forms
Students will need to complete the Google form (https://forms.gle/LR2DuftzQuipzbcA8) by Friday, February 15, 2024.  Students will submit one senior picture and baby picture that will be used in the slideshow that will be viewed at bacc. The senior picture will also be used in the yearbook.  Please submit the photos to Ms. Walker at hwalker@morencibulldogs.org before Spring Break, March 22, 2024.

Jostens Graduation Announcements
To order special graduation announcements, rings, clothing, etc. you may visit Jostens.com, select “Shop your school” and enter Morenci High School.

Student Email Accounts
Students have until September 1, 2024 to transfer all their current email information to a new email as yours will be shut down at that time.

Transcripts
Students will need to create an account on Parchment to request their transcripts for colleges. Please do not use your school email account, you must create a new personal email account (gmail, yahoo, etc.).

Fines & Chromebook Returns
All fines must be paid as of rehearsal time, and all materials (books, Chromebooks, chargers, athletic uniforms, etc.) must be turned in by this day to receive a cap/gown.

High School Honors Night
May 9, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. in the HS gym

Parking Lot Space Painting
Parking spots need to be painted over with black paint by Wednesday, May 16, 2024 to receive your $10 deposit back.  See Mr. Miller for paint supplies.

Wednesday, May 15, 2024

  • Last Day at Tech Center for seniors. 

  • All senior exams must be completed by this date.

Thursday, May 16, 2023 - Last day of school for seniors

  • Senior Breakfast at 7:45 a.m. in the MS/HS Cafeteria. 

  • ALL SENIORS NEED TO READ THEIR “THIS I BELIEVE” ESSAYS, LISTEN TO OTHERS, and stay until all are completed.

  • 4 students will be selected by their peers or staff to present their essays during Baccalaureate.

Friday, May 17, 2023

  • Graduation rehearsal

    • Arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. in the MS/HS cafeteria.

    • Graduation rehearsal is a mandatory event!  

    • Students must arrive on time and participate in rehearsal to walk at Commencement on Sunday.

    • All fines have to be paid as of rehearsal time, and all materials (books, Chromebooks, chargers, athletic uniforms, etc.) must be turned in by this day to receive a cap/gown

    • Premier Bank will attend and give out information on starting bank accounts

  • Kindergarten/Senior Walk

    • May 17, after rehearsal (approximately 10:00 a.m.) at the elementary school

    • This is a mandatory event!

    • Seniors may leave school following the walk.

Baccalaureate

  • Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Morenci United Methodist Church.

  • This event is not required.

  • Arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Nazarene Church. We will walk down North Summit Street to the Morenci United Methodist Church together.

  • There is NO reservation of seats at Baccalaureate or Commencement. 

  • The Morenci United Methodist Church will open at 1:30 p.m. Seats are first come, first serve.

Commencement

  • Sunday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. on the football field (weather permitting).

  • Arrive no later than 3:30 p.m. at the MS/HS Cafeteria

  • In the event of inclement weather, the Commencement ceremony will be held in the high school gym on Sunday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m.

  • This event will be streamed by NFHS whether it is indoor or outdoor

  • Should Commencement be moved indoors, the high school activities entrance will not open until 3:00 p.m. for guests. 

  • Seats are first come, first serve.

  • Tickets are NOT required for admission to either graduation event. 

Graduates

  • Dress Code  

    • This is a formal dress code and graduates should dress appropriately.

    • No tennis shoes, flip-flops, jeans, etc.

    • Gentlemen should be dressed in dress pants & a collared shirt (tie is optional).

    • Ladies should be in dress slacks or skirts/dresses of appropriate length.

    • If you need assistance with clothing/shoes, please notify the office as soon as possible. 

  • Diplomas

    • Remember that you do not get your actual diploma upon walking across the stage. This is to ensure you act appropriately at the event.

    • After the recessional (class song), you are dismissed to go pick up your diploma in the cafeteria from Mrs. Lemmon.

    • NHS students must return their mantles to Mrs. Gierucki or an administrator before leaving for graduation.

  • Request for a Board Member to present your diploma:

    • A written request by the student to Mrs. Ellis needs to be submitted no later than Wednesday, May 15 if you would like a Board Member to present your diploma to you.

    • This applies only to BOARD MEMBERS. Other staff or family may not present diplomas to students.
