A random student from the high school and one middle school will be drawn at the end of each week. If the student drawn hasn’t had any discipline issues, tardies or absences that week, their name will be announced over the PA and they get to choose a prize! Tomorrow, May 13th, at 1:30pm Morenci Area Schools will be performing a district-wide ALICE drill. Students will have the process explained to them ahead of time by our staff and they will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Law enforcement will be present to monitor the drill. More information about what an ALICE drill is, what our staff will go over with students, and how you can talk about this drill at home can be found on the district webpage under DISTRICT INFORMATION. Parents of Morenci Band members, if you have not yet received the information sheets and permission form for the Cedar Point trip, please ask your student for these tonight. The permission form must be turned in to the office or Mr. Murray by Friday, May 13th.

Thirty seven eleventh grade students attended the Careers of Today and Tomorrow Career Day sponsored by the Michigan at the CSI building in Hudson. Several employers attended the event showcasing their careers with hands on activities and real life equipment. Many of the employers were hiring and was able to talk to the students about future employment. This event was PERFECT for the students who are undecided on a major in college or just a going to college in general.

🚨Morenci Community Members-The Little League is looking for volunteers 13 years old or older to help in the concession stand. They are at risk of having the stand closed on game nights as they don't have any volunteers stepping up. Reach out to a couple friends and volunteer together as a friends night out. The 8th graders have been caring for the salmon since they were eggs in November. On May 4, we released 30 salmon into the Huron River. They will imprint that area and continue to come back each year. The students also had fun fishing, taking walks, swinging on the playground, shooting hoops and eating lunch together at McDonald's. I am so proud of this class for the way they helped out all year long and for their behavior throughout the entire trip. They were complimented by the McDonald's staff for the way they handled themselves and cleaned up after they were finished.

7th graders from Mrs. Grondin's 5th hour math class will be competed in a classroom cooking challenge led by Vickie Pfeifer from the MSU Extension office. Half of the class will cooked on one day and let the rest of their class taste test their product. The other half will do the same on the following day. The class will decide which recipe was their favorite. Students will be using measuring and proportions skills during this activity, as well as their skills of problem-solving, following directions and teamwork.

All middle school baseball and softball games and practices for this evening have been canceled. The varsity baseball game has also been canceled, but they will practice at 3:30 in the high school gym.

Thank you to Carlos Calderon, Emma Miller, Emersyn Thompson, Zack Stevens, Ella Pierce and Aiden Williams for volunteering to help unload City Food boxes at the Morenci Bible Fellowship Church.

If you have a child in 6-11th grade who is planning to play sports at Morenci next year and will need a sports physical, 3DPT Physical Therapy will be hosting a 2022/2023 sports physical clinic at Morenci High School TODAY from 8:00 am – 10:00 a.m. The cost is $15 and proceeds are used to benefit school sports programs. Please send in payment in the form of cash or check payable to 3DPT along with the completed MHSAA physical form. If you would like to have your child participate please complete the MHSAA physical form with all signatures and payment to the office before the clinic.
